jack & jenna - a millennium park proposal
Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooly cow. That I’m pretty much a chronic romantic is no secret to those who know me well (which is why the whole “love” photography thing is a truly a dream job). I tear up at every wedding I’m lucky enough to capture. I leave each and every engagement session with a warm glow that prompts me to call my husband and gush about how wonderful the couple was, how wonderful love is, how wonderful he is….you get the point.
WELL. When Jack contacted me to discuss covertly photographing his proposal to his girlfriend, Jenna, let’s just say my excitement was at threat level midnight (per Agent Michael Scarn from The Office, of course). He walked me through his plan and it was just about the most wonderful scheme I’ve ever been privy to.
Jack had orchestrated a lunch date for his beautiful girlfriend, Jenna, and her good friend (also in on the plot, naturally!) while he (we) waited in the gorgeous Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. It was a fairly cold day which helped keep the crowds at bay. Jenna, thinking she and her buddy were on the way to a cool pop-up store, came strolling through the park none-the-wiser. When she saw Jack walking towards her looking uber dashing in a black dress coat, her happy bewilderment quickly changed to utter, elated shock the moment she realized what was up. AND I GOT TO WITNESS AND CAPTURE THE WHOLE THING. Her reaction, his reaction, her friend’s reaction! It was all too much.
But the excitement didn’t stop there! I congratulated and hugged them and pretended to head on off when in actuality Jack had planned a surprise family gathering at the beautiful La Storia restaurant in Old Town. Her family had flown in from out of town, his family was there to celebrate and Jenna got the second massive surprise of her life when their intimate celebratory dinner for two was in actuality a surprise engagement party! Just when I thought I couldn’t see someone happier.
